SEE WHAT’S POSSIBLE

Thanks to our teachers for attending our 2022 VET in Schools Conference

On Friday 25th of November, teachers from all over Queensland and parts of the ACT, came together for ViSC 2022 – See What’s Possible, where they heard from leading industry professionals and practitioners across each of our program areas: Sport, Fitness, Business and Tourism.

This year’s theme is ‘See What’s Possible’ – post the pandemic, what can you do to heighten the future outcomes for your students and elevate your role as a teacher? How do we keep students engaged and focused regardless of what is happening around them? #ViSC2022 aims to address and stimulate debate on the most significant changes taking place across those industries that you are preparing your students to enter.

#ViSC2022 was again delivered as a hybrid event, which accommodates our traditional live (face-to-face) event as well as provides a concurrent virtual experience leveraging our ‘Elevate’ (virtual streaming) platform for all our Binnacle deliverers.

2022 CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

Our Hybrid Event (Live + Virtual) will address all our Program Areas: SPORT & RECREATION, FITNESS, BUSINESS and TOURISM.

Binnacle Training’s annual VET in Schools Conference (ViSC) is a 1-Day Professional Development event for Binnacle Deliverers, normally held in Term 4 (Week 8). This event is FREE for all Binnacle Partner Schools.

Our Annual VET in Schools Conference enables all our wonderful Binnacle Program deliverers to satisfy their HR requirements for Semester 2 for both VET and Industry PD as this conference covers the 3-hours minimum required for each PD activity. This information can be located in the Human Resource (HR) requirements section of the Binnacle Third Party Agreement (TPA).

2022 TEACHER AWARD WINNERS

SPEAKERS FOR VISC 2022

Dr Adam Fraser’s cutting-edge research with Deakin University shows that what high performers have in common is that they use ‘The Third Space’ to overcome setbacks and assume a mindset to get the most out of what is coming next. ‘The Third Space’ is the transitional gap between “What the hell just happened?” and “What’s next?”. High performers use this space to decompress, jettison the negative and bring new focus and energy to the next task at hand.

Whilst pursuing a teaching career abroad and juggling being a professional athlete, Billie Murphy found her purpose through a chance meeting with her then Airbnb host (Simon Doble) who had started a not-for-profit charity called SolarBuddy. Together their mission has been to create awareness and tackle the issues surrounding energy poverty by gifting innovative, sustainable solutions to illuminate the lives of children worldwide.

Four time AFL premiership winning player at the Hawthorn Football Club, a three-time All-Australian and dual Peter Crimmins Medalist as Hawthorn Best and Fairest, Luke Hodge can be expected to be a quick edition for the Australian Football Hall of Fame once eligible. How did this boy from Colac in country Victoria mix skill, toughness and courage to become one of the all-time AFL greats and now one of the most respected voices covering the AFL.

Hailey Brown is the founder of Vacayit, Australia’s first audio storytelling platform that helps support blind and low vision tourists make informed decisions independently, about where they want to travel. She is highly experienced in the field of ‘Accessible Tourism’, startups and universal design, and aims to drive positive societal change around how destinations and operators market their experiences.

A Queensland-based personal trainer, cookbook author and founder of the activewear label, KFIT, Katie Martin has been a personal trainer since 2016, working with a range of clients across a range of different goals and training requirements. She has also worked with clients across Australia online and in person from her Brisbane base. Kate has also recently released her debut cookbook, The Kitchen Series, which was born from her love of food and cooking.

A respected and passionate television professional, Michael Atkinson has manned the weekend sports desk at Nine News Queensland since 2018. Michael also steps into the world of sports broadcasting, working on Super Rugby, Wallabies test matches, the Super Netball Grand Final and Nine’s tennis coverage. A highly sought-after Master of Ceremonies, we’re excited to have Michael leading this year’s proceedings.

How to maximise the day?

Our mission is to provide you with the greatest amount of value possible! This being the case, we want to ensure you are able to capitalise on the information being shared with you across the entire day. To do so, we suggest the following:

Log into ‘Elevate’ – our virtual streaming platform in the lead-up to the event to familiarise yourself with its functionality. This will be available to all registered attendees.
All live and virtual attendees should have a fully charged device (either a phone, tablet or laptop). This will allow you to engage with teachers all over the state via a live chat feed, contribute to ongoing polls, and have an opportunity to have your questions responded to by our presenters in each session.
Make sure your device has a good internet connection so you don’t miss out on the information addressed in each session due to lag or dropouts.
If you are tuning in virtually, we encourage you to get together with your Binnacle colleagues or colleagues from another school to consume the event in one location.
